Rates fixed by Govt for sacrificial animals being flouted everywhere, allege locals

Srinagar, July 21: Even as the government re-fixed the sale rate of sacrificial (Qurbani) animals, the people selling the livestock on the ground are not adhering to the rate list while the officials said that two cases have already been registered in this regard and offenders have been penalized.

Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Ghulam Rasool, a local resident from Srinagar said that the Qurabani (sacrificial) animals are being sold at exorbitant rates while the authorities concerned are acting as mute spectators.

Earlier on Monday, the government re-fixed rates of sacrificial livestock.

“Consequent upon the decisions taken in the meeting regarding fixing/review of rates of sacrificial (Qurbani) live stock held on 14-07-2020 and in supersession of all previous notifications issued on the subject and in exercise of the powers conferred upon me under Jammu & Kashmir Mutton Licensing & Control Order, 1973 read with SRO-31 dated. 31-01-1974, I, Bashir Ahmad Khan, Director, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Kashmir hereby revise and refix the sale rate of Qurbani live stock,” the order reads.

The rates as per the order is Sheep (Delhi Walla) Rs. 230 per live per kg, Sheep (Merino Cross) Rs. 230 per live per Kg, Sheep (Bakerwall) Rs. 220/- live per kg, Sheep (Kashmiri local) Rs. 220/- live per Kg and goat Rs. 210/-live per kg.

However, the people have alleged that the sacrificial animals are being sold by the people as per their will. “Some sellers are selling it at the cost of Rs 500 per live kg,” Nazir Ahmad, a local resident said, adding that the concerned department should take strict action against the offenders so that the people can get their sacrificial animals as per the fixed rates.

Meanwhile, Director Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCSCA), Bashir Ahmad Khan told KNO that they have already started a drive in this regard and two cases have already been registered against the norm violators.

He added that the teams are being sent to the places where from the complaints are being received, adding that the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir is chairing a meeting tomorrow in this regard.

“We have penalized many of the offenders so far and we will continue to launch drives against the violators till Eid-ul-Adha,” he said –(KNO)
