Pulwama, July 24: In Southern Valley’s Kakapora area which falls in Pulwama district, a bridge between Kakapora and Lelhar villages has become a source of naissance for the locals due to its dilapidated condition.

According to locals, the dilapidated bridge, which connects Kakapora with other areas, is a major threat for road accidents in the area.

Pertinently, the bridge has become a cause of concern for people living in neighbouring localities as well because it is Kakapora village’s link to at least six neighbouring villages.

“This bridge was damaged in the 2014 floods, which was acknowledged even by the Flood Control Department, but it has not been repaired since then,” Yasir Ahmad, a local shopkeeper from Kakapora, said while speaking to news agency KNT.

Another local, Bashir Ahmad said, “It takes us at least an hour to get to the hospital, while it took us just five minutes for the same when the bridge was motorable. The dilapidated condition of the bridge has so far claimed the lives of three people as we could not take them to the hospital on time.”

The bridge has been closed for the past three months which is causing a lot of problems for the people of the area, local residents claimed.

The residents appealed the government to repair the bridge as soon as possible so that “one of our biggest problems” is resolved.

However, an official of local R&B Department told KNT that work on this bridge will start soon. “Work on it could not start due to Coronavirus-induced lockdown, but hopefully it will start soon,” he said. (KNT)
