Police accuse relatives of militants of stone-pelting outside PCR Srinagar, arrest 9 persons

Srinagar, Aug 29: Police used tear-smoke shells to disperse the relatives of slain militants outside Police Control Room here in Kashmir capital Srinagar.

Police said the relatives of militants mostly women pelted stone on police personnel deployed at Police Control Room.

A police official told news agency KNT that over 40 to 50 relatives of the militants who were killed in shopian and Pulwama encounters pelted stones on Police outside PCR Srinagar in which SDPO Shaheed Gunj suffered injury in his right arm.

He said that police chased the relatives of slain militants and arrested 9 persons.

The arrested persons have been identified as Basit Reyaz of Mauhpona Pulwama, Fayaz Sofi of Sangam, Mumtaz Hafi of Dalipora Pulwama, Muzafar Bhat, Muhammad Ishaq and Adil Nazir Bhat all residents of Muradpora Shopian, Zameer Dar and Sahil Mukhtar of Drubgam Pulwama and Shahnawaz Ahmed of Bahibagh Kulgam.

Divulging information about the incident, sources said that relatives of slain militants had arrived at PCR to have last glimpse of them. At PCR, police allowed only close relatives, however, other part of the crowd too tried to enter into PCR. Police used tear-smoke shells to disperse them. (KNT)
