Srinagar, Sep 18: Medical superintendent Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura on Friday stated that there would be no serious impact of novel CoronaVirus during the winter in Kashmir valley, if people strictly adhere to COVID-19 protocols, including wearing of masks and following social distancing norms.

Talking to the news agency, Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Dr Farooq Jan said the Corona-Virus does not affect the environment as the same spreads due to ones ‘negligence’.

He said that the COVID-19 has thus far shown least impact on the environment, yet people need to be extra vigilant, maintain social distancing and wear masks to avoid contracting the infection.

“There is no serious impact of novel Corona-Virus on the environment so far as study is concerned. If people strictly follow COVID-19 protocols, they won’t get affected at all,” he added.

Dr, Jan further said this virus spreads primarily through droplets generated when an infected person coughs, sneezes or speaks.

“Respiratory infections can be transmitted through droplets of different sizes: when the droplet particles are 5-10 μm in diameter they are referred to as respiratory droplets, and when they are 5μm in diameter, they are referred to as droplet nuclei,” he said.

He said the COVID-19 could be contracted by touching a contaminated surface and then touching eyes, nose or mouth before washing hands.

He advised the people to be extra careful during winters, as the infection may get concentrated if guidelines are not followed.

“During the winter people in Kashmir often contract normal flu like Pneumonia, which is normal and curable, but the infection may be intensified if COVID-19 protocols like wearing face masks, maintaining social distance and avoiding social gatherings are not followed,” Dr. Jan said—(KNO)
