Bandipora, Feb 26: As the J&K Board of School education (JKBOSE), announced results of 10th class for Kashmir province on Friday, north Kashmir’s Bandipora district registered poor performance yet again.
Pertinently, Bandipora is known for three things, Alim (Knowledge), Adab (Literature) and Aab (Water) and poor performance by the schools in the district in class 10 exams evoked sharp criticism from various quarters.
Details available with news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), revealed that the district has recorded the lowest pass percentage of 61. 52 percent in Class 10th exams (2020), results.
The details also revealed that a Government High School in Pannar village of the district recorded 0 percent results where 25 students appeared in the exams. “All of them failed while out of 11 students who had appeared in the exams from Government Boys High School Kilshay in Gurez, only one student has been able to achieve success in the exams,” officials said.
Although the private schools of the district have performed better in the exams but the Government Schools despite having a qualified and well trained staff have shown a dismal performance that has raised a question mark on the faculty of these schools.
Locals believe the lack of accountability and poor staff management by the administration has led to the poor standard of the teaching and learning process.
“Most of the teachers of government schools remain busy in doing politics, running NGOs or working on deputations in other government offices,” locals alleged.
Shabir Ahmed, civil society activist of the district said: “Most of the schools in remote villages are without staff as the teachers prefer to get themselves deputed in other government offices so that they are not forced to go to schools in these remote areas.”
He said the government till now has failed to provide justice to the children of the remote villages.
Last week, KNO had carried a story that out of 26 higher secondary schools of district Bandipora, 16 are without principals since past many years, which has badly affected the smooth functioning of these institutions.
Chief education officer (CEO), Bandipora Javid Iqbal said that that the schools that have recorded zero percentage will face action. “Staff of these schools won’t be paid their salaries and they will be placed under suspension,” he said—(KNO)
