COVID-19: For now, no closure of colleges in JK: Govt

Srinagar, Apr 08: Amid rumors regarding closure of colleges following the surge in COVID-19 cases, the government on Thursday said that the higher education institutes in Jammu and Kashmir will function normally through regular mode.

Top officials of the Higher Education Department told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the students must not pay heed to the rumors regarding the closure of colleges.

The official said, “In Jammu and Kashmir, colleges are functioning normally even the management of the all colleges are ensuring adherence of COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).”

“There is no such proposal of closing the colleges here and the Higher Education Department is constantly monitoring the COVID-19 cases among the students and the staff members,” the official said.

It is pertinent to mention that on March-15, at least three students of Womens College Srinagar were tested positive for COVID-19 and on March-07, authorities ordered closure of Islamia College of Science and Commerce till March-13 following the outbreak of COVID-19 among its two faculty members.

The colleges in Kashmir valley resumed physical academic activities on February-15 after a gap of nearly eleven months—(KNO)
