Amid COVID-19, special prayers at shrines; processions mark Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW) in Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 19 : Amid Covid-19, the major shrines especially Hazratbal Dargah on Tuesday witnessed less gathering of devotees on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW), where special prayers were held today and the devotees had a glimpse of holy relic as well.

It was after two consecutive years that the congregational prayers were held at major shrines in the Valley on the eve of Eid-e-Milad as the Covid outbreak here in Jammu and Kashmir forced the government to disallow the special prayers to prevent the gatherings in wake of the virus.

Witnesses told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that small gatherings were witnessed told in major shrines of Kashmir where special prayers were held in view of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW), the birth anniversary of Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW), which was celebrated with religious zeal and fervor across the Valley.

The locals, living within the vicinity of the shrines were allowed to participate in the prayers today at shrines. The night-long prayers were also held at Hazratbal Dargah and other shrines.

CEO Wakf Board, Mufti Farid-ud-din had told KNO that the people living close to Dargah will be allowed to participate in night-long prayers.

Emotional scenes were witnessed at Dargah today when the devotees who joined the congregational prayers had a glimpse of holy relic following the culmination of prayers.

The devotees were seen raising their hands and were seeking forgiveness from Almighty Allah. The devotees had a glimpse of the holy relic after every prayer today.

Meanwhile, the Wakf board had made special arrangements today for the devotees as well as according to the guidelines with regard to Covid-19.

Majority of the devotees who thronged the shrines today were seen wearing face masks and the social distance was also maintained during the prayers, witnesses said.

Moreover, the Milad processions were also carried out today in some areas in which mostly children were seen raising slogans in favour of Islam and reciting Naat-e-Shareef.

According to witnesses, small processions were carried out in Barbarshah area, Fateh Kadal, Habba Kadal, Khanyar, Regal Chowk and other areas today in which children participated while holding flags reading Quranic verses.

Seerat conferences were also organized today at several Masjids and shrines during which the Islamic clerics delivered sermons on the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW)—(KNO)
