Srinagar, Aug 5: The inflation in prices of daily commodities is burning a hole in the pocket of a common man in Kashmir Valley. With authorities in slumber, the prices of vegetables, have skyrocketed in the summer capital.
Consumers have been voicing their concerns over the exorbitant prices of vegetables. It has really become hard for the poor to survive in this kind of inflation.
One of the consumers told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the rampant profiteering had already set the stage for enormous profits as prices had increased manifold in the absence of any regulation. As a result, people are finding it increasingly difficult to afford essential food items.
“You won’t get anything for Rs 100. At least you need to have a Rs 500 note if you are intending to buy a variety of vegetables,” Altaf Ahmed, a consumer said.

Another consumer said that tomatoes are being sold at Rs 150, lettuce at Rs 100, Kashmiri pumpkin at Rs 80, and brinjal at Rs 100.
“Everything is being sold at exorbitant rates. “If you inquire about the rates, you will find a lot of variation from shopkeeper to shopkeeper,” he said.
A vegetable seller at Mehjoor Nagar is selling raw tomatoes for Rs 160.
When questioned about the reason for the hike in prices, he said he himself gets all the stuff costly from the dealers. [KNT]
