Kulgam Police arrests six gamblers; Rs 10,000 stake money recovered

Kulgam, Sept 18: In a decisive move against social crimes, the Kulgam police acted swiftly upon specific information obtained from reliable sources concerning gambling activities within the jurisdiction of Police Post Mirbazar.

A police team, led by the In-Charge of PP Mirbazar, conducted a raid at a suspected gambling site located in Akhran, resulting in the apprehension of the following individuals, whose identities have been confirmed:

  1. Mohd Younis Machoo, Son of Wali Mohd Machoo, Resident of Akhran.
  2. Mohd Ishaq Shan, Son of Mohd Maqbool Shan, Resident of Akhran.
  3. Lateef Ahmad Sofi, Son of Bashir Ahmad Sofi, Resident of Wanpoh.
  4. Altaf Ahmad Dar, Son of Gull Mohd Dar, Resident of Battachloo, Kulgam.
  5. Mushtaq Ahmad Wani, Son of Mohd Afzal Wani, Resident of Monghal Furrah.
  6. Ajaz Ahmad Shan, Son of Abdul Rehman Shan, Resident of Nowpora.

These individuals were apprehended red-handed while engaged in card playing activities. Additionally, from the scene, a sum of ₹10,000 in stake money, six mobile phones, and a set of playing cards were seized.

In light of this incident, all the individuals involved in gambling have been formally charged, and a case has been registered under FIR No.200/2023 U/S 13 of the Gambling Act at Police Station Qazigund. The investigation into this matter is currently ongoing.
