Rehan Qayoom Mir

Srinagar, Oct 14: Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, the 14th Mirwaiz of Jammu and Kashmir, addressed the pressing Israel-Palestine conflict during the grand Seerat conference at Islamia Higher Secondary School, Srinagar.

Speaking to the media persons, Mirwaiz, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), highlighted the deep-rooted sentiments shared by the people of Jammu and Kashmir, paralleling the pain felt within the Islamic community worldwide.

The valley’s top religious leader expressed profound concern over the ongoing war, highlighting the distressing scenes of innocent lives, including children and the elderly, being affected. He said the silence in the face of such human suffering was unacceptable.

Mirwaiz called for a just solution to the conflict, emphasising the importance of granting the rights of the Palestinian people and their right to a homeland. He condemned the bloodshed and urged the international community to actively seek a peaceful solution to end the conflict.

The issue should be resolved through dialogue and equitable solutions, rather than unilateral decisions, he said.

“We have always felt that a solution for this Israel-Palestine conflict has to be found and sought in peace, and the rights of the people of Palestine should be given to them,” he said, adding, “The people of Palestine have been deprived of their country and their land, and this is a matter of cruelty, and the world should raise its voice and seek a solution that can bring about peace.”

We are not against any community or country, as we feel that both the people of Palestine and Israel should be given their basic rights so they can live in peace, he added.

Meanwhile, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was once again recognised among the 500 most influential Muslim personalities across the world by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre (RISSC), Jordan, for the year 2024, marking his tenth consecutive year on the prestigious list—(KNO)
