Ladakh to expand boundaries of ULBs

Srinagar, Oct 27: The administration of Ladakh Union Territory is expanding boundaries of urban local bodies in the Union Territory.

To begin with, the administration of the UT has set-up two committees for submitting proposals for extending boundaries of municipal bodies of Leh and Kargil. These are the only two ULBs in Ladakh.

As per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the committees would be headed by the concerned deputy commissioner.

The committee for Leh comprises executive officer, municipal committee Leh and Kargil, president municipal committee Leh, LAHDC members (upper and lower Leh councilor or any other member nominated by LAHDCs member(s)), Tsewang Dorje, I/C ENT, Leh, representative from Housing & Urban Development Department and representative from Rural Development Department.

As per details, the committee for Kargil comprises executive officer, Municipal Committee Kargil, president Municipal Committee Kargil, LAHDC Council members (town councilor, Kargil or any other member nominated by LAHDC), Zakir Hussain, ENT, Kargil Member , representative from Housing & Urban Development Department and representative from Rural Development Department.

The committees have been constituted under the Jammu & Kashmir Municipal Act-2000, which is also applicable to Ladakh.

The ULB elections in Ladakh were held in October 2018 when it was still part of Jammu & Kashmir—(KNO)
