If BJP has done development in J&K, then why running away from elections: Omar Abdullah

Handwara, Nov 26: Former Chief Minister and National Conference Vice-President Omar Abdullah questioned the BJP’s commitment to development in J&K, urging them to announce elections and highlighting the contradiction in their claims and attitude as they avoid conducting ULB, Panchayat, and Assembly elections in the Union Territory.

Addressing reporters at a party convention in Handwara, Omar Abdullah remarked that if the BJP government has indeed made progress in the Union Territory, they should confidently announce elections in J&K, providing an opportunity for the party to showcase its developmental achievements. However, he suggested that the reluctance to hold elections suggests a lack of confidence or apprehension on their part.

“We are unfortunate to have an unelected government in the Union Territory. The common people are facing harassment under the pretext of excessive electricity consumption, while government departments and security establishments are utilizing more electricity than the residents,” he added.

“The challenges faced by the people seem to dissipate into thin air, as no one seems to care. There is a glaring absence of the mother of democracy here in J&K. Don’t the people of J&K deserve the right to choose their elected representatives? Democracy is being undermined in Jammu and Kashmir,” Omar said.(KNS).
