Explained: JKBOSE new norms for subject change, re-admission of classes 10th, 12th

Srinagar, Feb 17: The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (BOSE) Saturday notified amended norms and regulation governing the change of subjects and re-admission for senior secondary classes students from the ongoing academic year.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Director Academics of the board in a notification said that the amendments were made on the recommendations of the committee constituted in this behalf and on the approval of authorities.

It said that the norms and regulation governing the change of subjects and re-admission has been amended from current Academic 2023-24.

According to the BOSE, in the existing rules with regard to changing of subjects, under General, Rule (14): Unless otherwise provided in these regulations, candidates of Higher Secondary Examination Part-l and Part-ll desiring to change their subject in which they have failed or have been placed in re-appear category be allowed to do so at any session.

Subsequent to the one at which they have failed or have been placed under reappear category along with prescribed fee, without requiring them to appear again in the subjects in which they have already passed provided the change is within the stream that they pursued or form science or commerce to arts and not vice versa and request for change of subjects Is made along with fee before or at the time of submission of fees and forms for the examination.

However, in accordance to the existing rules, If the candidate wants to change their entire stream of subjects they may also be allowed to do so provided they seek cancellation of their results in all subjects, excepting English in which the candidates can retain the earlier awards (If successful and if they so desire).

Amendments for changing of subjects

According to the BOSE, in the existing rules with regard to changing of subjects, under General, Rule (14): Candidates of Higher Secondary Examination Part-l and Part-ll desiring to change their subjects in which they have failed or have been placed in re-appear category shall be allowed to do so at any session subsequent to the one in which they have failed or have been placed under re-appear category, without requiring them to appear again in the subjects in which they have already passed provided the change is within the stream that they pursued.

However, the BOSE in the amendment rules said that if the candidate either re-appear, failure or before declaration of result wants to change their entire subject stream (from Arts to science or commerce and vice versa), they may be allowed to do so provided they seek cancellation of their previous results in all subjects, at their own risk and responsibility.

BOSE said that such candidates shall have to appear in all compulsory subjects of the changed stream and cannot retain awards of any of the previously passed subjects.

In case of pass-out candidates who have already passed Higher Secondary Examination Part-l (Class 11th) and want to change their whole stream of subjects shall be allowed to do so after seeking cancellation of their previous result, at their own risk and responsibility and such candidate can appear either as fresh private or seek re-admission in class 11th in regular mode, for the immediate subsequent session only.

However it said that the candidates who have once passed Higher Secondary Part-ll (Class 12h) examination shall not be allowed to seek cancellation of result for changing their stream of subjects.

Existing rules of readmission

BOSE said that in accordance to the existing rules regarding readmissions, a candidate who has left his or her school or institution without appearing in any board examination (after securing Roll No Slips and are shown absent in marks card) are eligible to seek fresh admission in regular mode for the immediate subsequent session.

It also said that if a candidate who has once appeared in any examination and declared under re-appear or failure category conducted by board shall not be eligible to seek further re-admission as regular students in any of the institutions affiliated with Board.

However BOSE said that the candidates may be eligible to appear in private capacity under re-appear or failure category.

Amended rules for readmission

BOSE in the amended rules with regard to readmission said that the desirous candidates seeking re-admission in class 11th in regular capacity shall be allowed to do so in next subsequent academic session only even if they have appeared, not appeared, passed, declared re-appear or fail, as the case may be in the same class with the provision that they can seek admission in any stream of their choice, if they so desires.

It also said that the previous result of pass-out, re-appear, failure candidates who desire to change their subject stream shall be cancelled at their own risk and responsibility for which they should apply within fifteen days from the declaration of their result.

BOSE in the amendment rules further said that such students cannot retain awards of any of the previously passed subjects.

It said that no re-admission shall be granted to the students who have already passed their Higher Secondary Part-ll (Class 12th) examination—(KNO)
