Srinagar, May 20: Ghulam Qadir Lone, the former General Secretary of the banned organization Jamaat-e-Islami, has made a heartfelt appeal to the youth, encouraging them to vote in large numbers in the ongoing elections. Lone emphasized that robust voter participation is crucial to ensuring that the dark chapter of election rigging in 1987 is not repeated.

Talking to reporters, Lone, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) correspondent, said, “A lot of time has passed since the rigging of 1987. Hopefully, this will not be repeated again.” He highlighted the significant role that the youth play in shaping the future of the nation through their active participation in the democratic process.

Lone also revealed that he has requested the central government to lift the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami. “If the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami is lifted, then we will participate in the next elections,” he stated, hinting at the organization’s willingness to engage in the political process if given the opportunity—(KNO)
