Qazigund, June 26: The NSS unit of Government Degree College Qazigund, in collaboration with the Department of English and the Department of Environmental Science, conducted an awareness programme to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The programme commenced with introductory remarks by Prof. Nehad Kaniz Fatima, Head of the Department of English, who highlighted the alarming statistics of drug abuse in the state and discussed available community resources to assist individuals affected by drug abuse.
Prof. Showkat Ahmad Malik, NSS Programme Coordinator and Head of the Department of Education, addressed the issues of drug abuse and illicit trafficking, emphasizing that one’s health is their greatest asset and should not be taken for granted. He also underscored this year’s theme: “The evidence is clear: invest in prevention,” stressing the importance of prevention over cure.
Dr. Amees Tuhasif Aezum, Guest Faculty, spoke about the challenges confronting today’s youth and encouraged students to confront these challenges directly without turning to drugs.
The programme effectively sensitized students to the dangers of drug abuse and encouraged them to raise awareness within their families and communities about its devastating consequences.
The event concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Abdul Wahid, Guest Faculty, stressing the importance of vigilance and caution in combating drug abuse.
