Qazigund, Oct 22: The Department of Physical Education & Sports, Government Degree College Qazigund, in collaboration with the NSS unit, organized its Annual Road Race for Boys on Tuesday. The race covered a distance of 4 km, starting from GDC Qazigund and ending at Bonigam.
Principal, Prof. Ghulam Hassan Thakur, was the Chief Guest, and Sub Inspector Saleem Ahmad (Police Station, Qazigund) was the Guest of Honour for the event.
The race was flagged off by the Chief Guest, Prof. Ghulam Hassan Thakur, along with Sub Inspector Saleem Ahmad, the NSS Programme Officer, medicos and medical staff from BMO Qazigund, members of the traffic police, and faculty members of the college.
The race began at 7:00 AM and concluded at 7:30 AM at the Bonigam finish line, covering the 4 km course. A total of 30 students participated with enthusiasm. The winners were Rameez Gani Mir (UG 6th semester), who secured 1st place; Hilal Ahmad Bhat (UG 1st semester), who came in 2nd; and Adil Shafi (UG 1st semester), who secured 3rd place.
Following the race, an award ceremony was held on the college campus. Prof. Showkat Ahmad Malik (HOD Education and NSS Programme Officer) welcomed the guests, faculty members, and participants to the ceremony. In his introductory remarks, he emphasized the importance of participating in curricular and co-curricular activities, noting that sports help keep individuals healthy and away from drugs and other social evils.
Officials from Police Station Qazigund, the medical staff, traffic police, and faculty members extended their full cooperation in making the event a grand success. During the felicitation ceremony, all participants were awarded medals to encourage further participation in such events, and the top three winners were honored with mementos by the Chief Guest and other dignitaries present.
