Srinagar, Dec 3: The Jammu and Kashmir Handicapped Association marked World Disability Day with a somber “black day” protest, underscoring the urgent need for inclusive policy reforms.
Scores of members from the Association gathered at Press Enclave Srinagar and displayed banners and chanted slogans, demanding transformative change in the lives of individuals with disabilities.
They demanded employment prospects through targeted recruitment drives and revising the reservation system in government jobs to ensure equitable representation. Protesters also advocated for substantial enhancements to existing support mechanisms, including a fivefold increase in monthly pensions, subsidized loans, and expanded access to education and employment opportunities.
Citing the Disability Act of 2016 and pertinent government ordinances, the Association sought swift administrative action to mitigate their sufferings. [KNT]
