Srinagar, Dec 11: As Kashmir experiences biting cold, the demand for warm winter clothing and gadgets has surged across the region.

Shopkeepers selling winter essentials report brisk sales, with customers stocking up on items to combat the freezing temperatures.

From heavy woolens and thermal wear to jackets and mufflers, winter clothing stores are bustling with activity.

“The demand for warm clothes has doubled compared to last year,” said Zahoor Ahmad, a shopkeeper in Srinagar. He said that people are buying in bulk, preparing for the harsh winter months ahead.

The demand isn’t limited to clothing. Electric heating gadgets, kangris (traditional firepots), and hot water bottles are also flying off the shelves. “Products like room heaters and electric blankets are in high demand. We have already run out of stock for some models,” said Parvez Ahmed, a shop owner specializing in winter appliances.

Valley is currently in the grip of biting cold. Night temperatures have consistently dropped below freezing, adding to the challenges of daily life.

Residents are taking extra precautions to keep themselves warm. “With so much cold, we have no choice but to invest in good-quality winter clothing and gadgets,” said Tasleema, a resident of downtown Srinagar.

The local market has also seen a rise in the demand for traditional woolen items, including pherans (long woolen cloaks) and blankets. (CNS)
