IGP Kashmir ensures multi-tiered security for Republic Day celebrations, says ‘Sopore encounter is over’

Srinagar, Jan 21: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, Vidhi Kumar Birdi has assured full-scale security measures for the upcoming 26th January celebrations, emphasizing the importance of safety for attendees of the parade and related functions.

Speaking to the media, IGP Kashmir as per news agency KINS said, “As you know, the preparations for 26th January are in full swing. There will be multi-tiered security arrangements for smooth conduct of Republic Day Celebrations”

IGP further said that the encounter between security forces and militants in Gujjarpati, Zaloora area of north Kashmir’s Sopore has been over.

“The security forces had received a tip-off about some suspicious movement in the area following which a cordon and search operation was laid. Soon the search party zeroed in on the suspected spot the hiding terrorists fired upon, triggering gunfight in the area,” IGP Kashmir said.
