Rajouri, May 10: Three persons, including a two-year-old girl and a senior government officer, lost their lives in intense shelling by Pakistani forces in Rajouri town on Saturday morning.

Official sources told news agency JKNS those killed in the shelling have been identified as Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Rajouri Raj Kumar Thappa, two-year-old Asha Noor, a native of Uttar Pradesh, and 33-year-old Mohd Shuaib, son of Mohd Shahid, also from Uttar Pradesh.

Sources said Pakistani shells landed in residential areas, causing panic and widespread damage. “The shell hit the residence of the ADDC, killing him on the spot. The baby girl Asha Noor and another civilian, Mohd Shuaib, were also killed in the shelling,” officials confirmed.

The child’s mother and father were critically injured and have been evacuated to hospital for treatment. Their condition is being closely monitored.

Security agencies have cordoned off the affected locations, and further shelling has been reported from forward areas, prompting fresh advisories for residents to stay indoors.

Reacting to the incident, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives, saying the death of a senior officer and innocent civilians was a devastating tragedy. (JKNS)
