Srinagar, Jan 12: Facing mounting criticism over the prolonged delay in appointing the Chairperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE)—which in turn delayed the declaration of Class 10th and 12th annual examination results—the Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday reconstituted the Search Committee tasked with recommending panels for key academic appointments.
According to an order, a copy of which lies with GNS, the government has reconstituted the Search Committee for the appointment of the Chairperson, JKBOSE, and Director, JKSCERT, superseding the previous order (No. 163-JK(GAD) of 2025) dated January 30 last year.
The reconstituted committee comprises the Administrative Secretaries of the Planning, Development & Monitoring Department; Agriculture Production Department; General Administration Department; Higher Education Department; and School Education Department, besides the Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, and the Vice-Chancellor, University of Kashmir.
The School Education Department will service the committee, which has been directed to furnish its recommendations in a time-bound manner.
In the meantime, the government has assigned interim charge of the JKBOSE Chairperson to the Secretary of the Board. As per a separate order, issued under subsection (1) of Section 12 of the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education Act, 1975, Ghulam Hassan Sheikh, JKAS, Secretary, JKBOSE, shall discharge the functions of Chairperson, JKBOSE, in addition to his own duties, as an interim arrangement, till further orders.
The announcement comes amid the vacancy of the JKBOSE Chairperson’s post for nearly a year, a delay that had drawn sharp criticism from students, parents, and education stakeholders.
Meanwhile, the government has announced that the JKBOSE Class 10th and 12th examination results will be declared on Wednesday (January 14).
Education Minister Sakina Itoo said the decision was taken keeping in view the anxiety of students awaiting their results. “We understand that students have been waiting for the results. Therefore, it has been decided that the results of both classes will be declared on Wednesday,” the minister said.
She clarified that the meeting of the Result Declaration Committee (RDC) will be convened by the Secretary JKBOSE along with the Director School Education (DSE) for both Kashmir and Jammu divisions and the concerned Joint Secretaries.
As per official figures, 94,783 students appeared in the Class 10th JKBOSE examinations this year, including 68,804 from Kashmir, 25,224 from winter zone areas of Jammu division, 660 from Kargil, and 95 from Leh.
Meanwhile, 70,117 students registered for the Class 12th examinations, including 56,423 from Kashmir and 13,694 from winter zone areas of Jammu. The Class 12th examinations commenced on November 8 last year. (GNS)
