Srinagar, Jan 06: Four days on, air and the road traffic across Kashmir remained disrupted in the wake of heavy snowfall for the past two days while as the only surface road link—Srinagar-Jammu national highway—continued to remain closed for vehicular traffic.

Director Srinagar Airport Santosh Dhoke while speaking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said: “Low visibility and accumulation of snow at the Srinagar airport led to the cancellation of 28 flights on Wednesday morning. Since past four days, there has been no flight operations at the Srinagar airport.”

Asked whether any flight is expected to take off at the airport on Thursday, Dhoke said that runway has been cleared off the snow and hopefully, if weather allows, flight operations will resume tomorrow.

Pertinently, the Kashmir witnessed heavy snowfall since January 4 that continued till early morning January 6, leaving the normal life paralysed on all fronts.

Vehicular connectivity in several parts of the Kashmir remained affected on the fourth consecutive day as well with people alleging that administration failed clear roads, lanes and by-lanes in time, thereby chocking the vehicular movement.

The only surface link connecting Kashmir with the rest of country—Srinagar-Jammu national highway, as shooting stones and landslides have blocked the highway at least over a dozen places. Traffic officials, however, said that efforts are on to clear the highway for traffic. “Men and machinery is working round the clock amid slippery conditions. Subject to fair weather, road will through for traffic by the weekend,” a traffic official said—(KNO)
