Ganderbal, Aug 10: After over 30,000 seedlings failed to germinate due to the use of sub-standard seeds at Zirpora Kulan Nursery here in Kangan area of the Ganderbal district, some officials in a bid to save their skin, are desperate to put a lid on the truth.

Forest Department had taken strong note of the incident and had warned of strict action against the guilty. News Agency KNT had reported that Sindh Forest Division, Ganderbal had sown over 30,000 seedlings allegedly using sub-standard seeds in Zirpora Kulan Nursery. These seeds were sown in the Nursery in May this year and at the end of July last month this Nursery looked like an abandoned patch of land.

Sources said that officials responsible for the mess have now procured saplings from Soil Range High-Tech Nursery from Sindh Range Ganderbal to Zirpora Kulan Nursery. Sources added that Department had sent Casual Labourers from Sindh Range to Ganderbal Nursery to get the saplings and the same were planted at Zirpora Nursery on Sunday (yesterday) so that truth doesn’t come out.

“It was done to mislead the top officials. The employees responsible for the mess want to show that everything was alright at Zirpora Nursery,” said an insider to KNT.
