Dentistry candidates accuse officials at GMC Baramulla of nepotism, corruption for appointing blue eyed candidate against the norms

Principal GMC refutes allegations, says the candidate has appeared first time

Baramulla, Oct 22: The Senior Resident Department of dentistry candidates at Government Medical College Baramulla Saturday accused the officials of resorting to favouritism and nepotism by appointing blue eyed senior residents in the hospital against the norms.

Reportedly, a blue-eyed candidate has been appointed as senior resident for the 4th time straight away without giving a chance to other candidates with higher qualifications.

Earlier on October 11, 2022 a walk-in interview was held in GMC Baramulla for the post of Senior Resident Department of dentistry.

“The female candidate at serial number 1 for Senior Resident dentistry was selected against the ethics of the said post,” the aggrieved candidates said.

The Senior Resident dentistry post is made available for postgraduate students in dentistry after completing their post-graduation, so that the students get experience in the relevant field and also be eligible for specialist post. For this post the experience required is two years and lecturer post the experience must be of 3 years.

The candidates stated that the said candidate has already done Senior Residentships at three different institutes GDC Srinagar, SKIMS Soura and GMC Srinagar. “She has been given a 4th chance at GMC Baramulla even though 19 candidates appeared for the interview”, they said.

“The said candidate has already more than 6 years of experience from these institutes. Even though an academic consultant is given a maximum of 6 year extension only, she is selected for the fourth time,” they alleged

The candidates alleged that the appointment of the said female candidate appears as a case of favouritism, nepotism, corruption and bias towards a selected candidate who manages to get the post even after already having the experience and not giving a chance to the fresher’s, who have no experience as senior residents yet.

They complained that the future of other students is at stake and they don’t get a chance to serve the community due to mere favouritism.

“This is a mental torture and psychological breakdown for students left with nothing and the blue eyed candidate gets the post everywhere. Our degrees are left useless and worthless with no experience,” they said.

The aggrieved candidates appealed to LG Manoj Sinha to look into the matter and resolve the issue as soon as possible, so that the future of students is not jeopardized by corruption and bias.

Pertinently, the candidates have already filed a complaint with LG’s grievance cell a couple of days ago, however no response has been received so far.

Meanwhile, Principal GMC Baramulla, Dr Ruby Reshi when contacted told KNO, that they will look into it and if anything found wrong then action will be taken against the same.

“The candidate has appeared in our college for the first time and we have never given her a fourth time. She may have concealed facts but she has performed as per the panel marks. However we will look into it,” she added—(KNO)
