Amid bloom, saffron fields in Pampore draw huge crowd of tourists

Srinagar, Oct 25: Hundreds of tourists have started visiting saffron fields in Pampore with the arrival of saffron bloom.

Saffron flowers have bloomed at several spots in Pampore known as saffron town. The picturesque fields with maroon, yellow and purple hues of the flowers are attracting hundreds of tourists.

“Since last one week, tourists have started arriving in the field. They are seen clicking pictures in fields,” said Ghulam Qadir of Pampore.

He said that due to recent rains saffron fields have started blooming and are attracting hundreds of tourists and the number is increasing with each passing day.

Like tourists click photographs in Dal Lake, Pahalgam, Gulmarg and other tourist spots, tourists are mesmerised by the beauty of saffron fields.

Bilal Ahmad, another local said that visitors are delighted by the fragrance of the saffron prompting them to purchase saffron on the spot.

News agency—Kashmir News observer (KNO) spoke to tourists in fields who said that they have timed their trips to see saffron bloom and spend time in the fields here.

Raj Krishan a tourist from Gujarat told KNO that visiting Kashmir and spending some time in saffron fields was his dream which has come true.

Similarly, tourists concurred with Raj saying that it is rare experience to spend time in saffron fields and witness its flowers which is known as the world’s costliest spice—(KNO)
