Srinagar, Aug 30: Jammu & Kashmir police on Wednesday said to have arrested two drug peddlers in Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A police party led by Incharge Police Post Mirbazar at a specific checkpoint established at Nippora intercepted 02 persons who after noticing the police party tried to flee from the spot but were apprehended tactfully, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
During search, 06 Kg of Poppy Straw like contraband substance concealed in 02 nylon bags was recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Surjeet Singh and Sunil Singh both sons of Sukhdev Singh residents of Dheeran Ramnagar, Udhampur. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody, police said.
In this regard, police said that a case under FIR number 181/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Qazigund and further investigation has been taken up.
“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said—(KNO)
