Qazigund, Nov 1: The South Kashmir Inter-college Kabaddi Tournament, organized by GDC Qazigund, reached its exciting conclusion under the banner of UT Foundation Day on Tuesday. The tournament commenced with the inaugural match between GDC Bijbehara and GDC Kulgam on October 9. Eight teams from various colleges in South Kashmir participated in this league tournament.
The first semi-final took place on October 27, where GDC Kulgam, the defending champions, emerged victorious against GDC Dooru, securing their place in the finals. The second semi-final on October 28 saw GDC Mattan defeating GDC Dooru, earning their spot in the finals. The much-anticipated final match was held on October 31, pitting GDC Kulgam against GDC Mattan.
The event was graced by distinguished guests, including Prof. Syed Javid Hussain, the Chief Guest, Prof. G.R Verma, the Principal of the Host College, and Prof. Mohd Amin Malik, the Principal of GDC Mattan. The importance of sports for a healthy and peaceful life was emphasized in the welcome address by Prof. Showkat Ahmad Malik, HOD Education.
Prof. G.R. Verma emphasized the significance of games and sports for individual well-being. The match was kick-started by the Chief Guest, Prof. Syed Javid Hussain, and the Guests of Honor. GDC Kulgam emerged victorious, defending their title for the second consecutive time, winning by a margin of 09 points.
A felicitation ceremony followed, with players from both teams receiving medals. The Winners Trophy was awarded to GDC Kulgam, while GDC Mattan received the Runners-Up Trophy. Rakeeb Ahmad Wani, the Captain of the GDC Kulgam Team, was named the Man of the Series for his outstanding performance and received a memento.
The officials of the tournament, provided by the District Youth Services and Sports Department Kulgam, were also honored for their professional and transparent officiating. The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks presented by Prof. Mohd Maqbool Pala.
