Srinagar, 03 Dec: Trying to Keep own Kashmiri culture alive, elderly Man from Pampore doing his hard work in making Kashmiri craft Patij.
Muhammad Yousuf, from Zan tral Khrew Pampore is making ropes of dry grass by which he used to make many types like chappals, shoes, mattings, chairs and many other things.
Muhammad Yusuf in an exclusive chat with DSN — Daily Spark News said that this is my father’s work and i used to get some tips to learn this art, this is a very old art used 100, 200 years ago, we are trying to revive it, yusuf added.
In old times our elders supposed to make this art thereselfs because of poor financial condition, as they were unable to get costly mattings. This art was very much preferable in old times, Yusuf said.
Elders used to make and use it for themselves, not for selling purpose, and use of dry grass was priority for this Patij and other items.
In current times people don’t preffer or sell these items due to technology, but Yusuf is helbent in making these older crafts.
Yusuf said that, people must keep an eye on this craft, as this may be useful for them anytime, He added. (DSN — Daily Spark News)
