GDC Qazigund, DLSA Kulgam Organize Awareness Program on ‘Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’

Qazigund, June 29: The NSS unit, Department of English and EVS at Government Degree College Qazigund, in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Kulgam and Tehsil Legal Services Authority Qazigund, organized an Awareness Program and an on-the-spot drawing and painting competition on the theme “Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” on Saturday.

The chief guest for the occasion was Parvaiz Iqbal, District and Sessions Judge of Kulgam. The Guests of Honour were Shri Anjeet Singh, Chairman Tehsil Legal Services Qazigund, and Tabassum Qadir Parrey, Secretary DLSA Kulgam.

The program commenced with an introduction by Prof. Nehad Kaniz Fatima (HoD English), who addressed the alarming nature of the drug abuse crisis in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The welcome address was delivered by Incharge Principal Prof. Aufaq Ahmad Zargar (HoD Computer Science).

Following the presentation of mementoes to the dignitaries, the program included insightful speeches by the guests and other speakers. Parvaiz Iqbal emphasized that youth are the future of our nation and stressed the importance of building confidence and self-worth to steer clear of drugs. Tabassum Qadir Parrey’s comprehensive and clear presentation captivated the audience.

Guest speakers Basit Zahoor (Asst. DLSA) and Adv. Amir Hamid Wani delivered talks on the legal aspects of drug abuse. Dr. Amir Rouf Khan discussed drug abuse from a medical perspective, detailing various types of drugs and their effects.

The program also featured a painting competition where students produced outstanding works on the theme of drug abuse and illicit trafficking. Their creations were praised by the guests, and certificates were awarded to the participants.

The formal Vote of Thanks at the culmination of the program was delivered by Prof. Showkat Ahmad Malik (NSS Coordinator and HoD Education), who expressed gratitude to everyone for contributing to the success of the event and underscored the importance of conducting such awareness programs regularly.
