JKCA to host Ranji Trophy matches after 6 year hiatus

Srinagar, Jul 07: In a significant development for cricket in Kashmir region, the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) has said that it will host three Ranji Trophy matches after a gap of six years.

The sporting development has come as a result of the Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) granting hosting rights to the JKCA.

Majid Dar, in-charge for cricket development in Kashmir, confirmed this to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). He stated that two of the matches will be held in Srinagar at the Sheri Kashmir Cricket Stadium, while the third match will take place in Jammu. The schedule for the Jammu game is yet to be announced.

“According to the match schedule issued by the BCCI, J&K’s Ranji team will play against Maharashtra and Services in Srinagar at Sheri Kashmir cricket stadium,” Dar said.

While the matches in Srinagar are scheduled for October, the locals cricketers in valley state that it marks a significant moment for local cricket enthusiasts and players who have eagerly awaited the return of high-level cricket to the region.

They said that the return of the Ranji Trophy matches is expected to boost the morale of local players and offer them a platform to showcase their talents on a bigger stage—(KNO)
