Budgam Gunfight: Ops on, lights installed; firing stops

Srinagar, Sep 07: The anti-militancy operation that started Kawoosa area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district is on after the initial exchange of firing in the afternoon while lights have been installed in the area. Officials said that there was no firing after initial exchange of bullets.

Officials told the news agency—the gunfight started at 4:30 pm, after security forces’ teams exchanged heavy volumes of fire. “Since then there has been contact. But lights stand installed and operation is on,” they said.

A police official said that a joint team of Police, army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Kawoosa area of Narbal, this afternoon on the basis of a specific input about presence of militants in the village.

“As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering an encounter,” the official said—(KNO)
