Jammu, Jul 22: Union Minister for Geology and Mining Kishan Reddy today said that the government of India is collaborating with J&K State Government to explore and produce Lithium deposits identified in Reasi district of Union Territory.
Responding to a query raised by Shiv Sena MP from Mumbai South Lok Sabha Constituency in Maharashtra, the Union Minister informed the Rajya Sabha, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that Geology and Mining department is collaborating with J&K State Government to further explore the lithium deposit identified in J&K.
Earlier, in February 2023, the Geological Survey of India (GSI) discovered 5.9 million tonnes of lithium in the Salal-Haimana area of the Reasi district in Jammu and Kashmir. This was India’s first discovery of lithium, a critical raw material used in electric vehicle batteries, solar panels, and mobile phones.
