Mohammad Hafeez Turns Down Contract Offer From PCB

Mohammad Hafeez Turns Down Contract Offer From PCB

Islamabad, Sep 08: Veteran batsman Mohammad Hafeez has reportedly turned down the contract offered to him by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The right-handed batsman had failed to find place in PCB’s previous two central contracts list. The latest development comes on the back of the senior batsman’s impressive performance in the T20I series in England.

Mohammad Hafeez was the standout performer in the series with his 36-ball 69 in the second game and a match-winning 86 not out off 52 balls in the final encounter. Those knocks also helped him gain big in the ICC rankings as he moved up 24 spots to No. 44.

The 39-year old, however, is not interested in binding himself with a PCB contract, according to The News International. According to the news outlet, the batsman has informed the PCB about his decision. PCB had offered him a monthly contract of more than Pakistani Rs 100,000. Mohammad Hafeez will now be given a retainer contract in which he will not get salary but match fee and daily allowance.

Mohammad Hafeez is likely to be seen in action next when the remaining matches of the Pakistan Super League takes place in November. The tournament was postponed in March due to the pandemic and the remaining matches will now take place in November. The senior batsman is playing for Lahore Qalandars.

The report further stated that PCB has also decided that no player or official will be able to participate in any event without signing an agreement. Last year, some cricketers participated in other events without signing the contract. There will be separate contracts for cricketers and match officials from different departments. After signing the PCB contract, the players will have to get the NOC of the board before accepting any other contract.
