Qazigund, Jan, 26: Government Degree College (GDC) Qazigund celebrated the 76th Republic Day with enthusiasm and pride, organizing a vibrant ceremony within the campus that resonated with patriotism and national spirit.
The event began with an inspiring introductory speech by Prof. Showkat Ahmad Malik, Head of the Department of Education and NSS Programme Officer, who moderated the proceedings. Prof. Malik emphasized the significance of Republic Day as a milestone in India’s history, underscoring the values of secularism, nation-building, and the principles enshrined in the Constitution, such as freedom, equality, and justice.
The national flag was ceremoniously unfurled by the Principal, Prof. Aufaq Ahmad Zargar, who also served as the Chief Guest. The moment was met with cheers and applause from students, NSS volunteers, and faculty members, symbolizing unity and patriotism. The Principal’s address highlighted the democratic values of the nation and honored the sacrifices of those who fought for freedom.
A disciplined and impressive parade by NSS volunteers followed the flag unfurling. The parade, which featured a precision drill and a salute to the Chief Guest, showcased the volunteers’ training and coordination, earning applause from the audience.
In his address, Prof. Aufaq Ahmad Zargar reiterated the importance of Republic Day and the enduring spirit of the Indian Constitution. He also encouraged students to uphold democratic values and contribute to nation-building.
The event concluded with a felicitation ceremony, where students and NSS volunteers were honored with mementos and certificates of appreciation for their active participation. A formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Rameez Ahmad Shah, Head of the Department of Environmental Science, bringing the program to a close.
