Kashmiri trio arrested by Delhi Police are innocent, say families

Srinagar, Dec 11: As the remand for custodial interrogation of three Kashmiri men ends today in Delhi, back in Kashmir, their family members and relatives staged a massive protest in Srinagar, terming all the three men as innocent and sought their release.

A couple of women fainted during the protest while mothers of these three men sough their release with tearful eyes.

Pertinently, five persons, 2 from Punjab and 3 from Kashmir were arrested by Special Cell of Delhi Police after an alleged encounter in Shakarpur locality in east Delhi. They were produced before Metropolitan Magistrate Sahil Khumri, who allowed their police custody till December 11.

Delhi police is claiming that all the five person including 3 Kashmiri men have links with militants. It said that Shabir Ahmad, Muhammad Ayub Pathan and Riyaz Ahmed Rather were allegedly affiliated with militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen, a claim vehemently refuted by the families of these men.

The family members were carrying placards vouching for the innocence of these men. “They are being implicated for the fault of their none. Delhi Police should seek details from Jammu Kashmir Police about these men. They were never involved in any subversive activities. Their police record is clear. We don’t know on what basis they were arrested,” the protesting family members told news agency KNT.

“They were arrested for being Kashmir. To be a Kashmir is the biggest crime. Why don’t Delhi Police trust us? One among them had gone Delhi for the first time, other had gone to procure material for the band saw and still one of them was proceeding towards Ajmeer. They are innocent and have been framed in a false case. It is shameless and injustice to link them with any militant organization,” the family members said. (KNT)
