Srinagar, July 27: Elderly National Conference Block President for Eidgah Constituency of Srinagar city died of Covid-19 infection.
Haji Ghulam Muhammad Lone (73) felt breathlessness and was shifted to SMHS Hospital two days back. “He was declared Covid-19 positive after his death on late Sunday night,” his son Uzair Lone told news agency KNT.
The deceased, a resident of Lattar Masjid Safa Kadal was laid to rest at a grave yard near Makhdoom Sahab (RA) shrine.
Haji Ghulam Muhammad was associated with National Conference from past 60 years and he was block president of National Conference from past 27 years.
“My father actively participated in Plebiscite Movement and he was only 9 when he joined National Conference and worked with National Conference founder Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah,” Uzair said.
Pertinently, the All Jammu and Kashmir Plebiscite Front was a political party that called for a “popular plebiscite” to decide if the state should remain part of India, join Pakistan or become independent. It’s founder was late Mirza Muhammad Afzal Beg, a close aide of Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah.
“National Conference leaders including Dr Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and others called us over phone and expressed grief over the demise of my father,” Uzair told KNT.
