Water scarcity sparks protest in Batamloo

Srinagar, July 29: Residents at Batamaloo area here in Srinagar city blocked the road leaving vehicles stranded for nearly an hour to protest acute water shortage in the area.

The protesters raised slogans against Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department and closed the road near Reka Chowk. They blocked the road by using wooden logs and tyres.

Eyewitnesses told news agency KNT that protesters mainly women, holding sticks in their hands sat on a dharna chanting slogans against PHE Department.

They said the area from past 15 days is without water while as the authorities despite repeated pleas to restore water supply have failed to take any tangible step in this regard.

The protesters’ said the PHE department has taken them for a ride thus leaving no option for them to block the road.

The road was blocked and women protesting till this report was being filed. (KNT)
