Ganderbal, July 30: Sindh Forest Division, Ganderbal had sown over 30,000 seedlings allegedly using sub-standard seeds in Zirpora Kulan Nursery here in Kangan area of the Ganderbal district. The said nursery where seedlings were sown using not only sub-standard seeds but also perforated polythene sheets has turned a complete failure as no species like Deodar, Kail, Ulmus, Maple, Betula have germinated in the nursery.

These seeds were sown in the Nursery in May this year and at the end of this month this Nursery looks like an abandoned patch of land.

Sources told news agency KNT that at the time of sowing season questions were raised about the use of sub-standard seeds in the Nursery and that time Conservator Srinagar Circle and Divisional Forest Officer Ganderbal had assured probe.

Sources added that DFO Ganderbal carried out a tour to inspect the said Nursery established by Forest department a couple of days ago. The DFO according to sources left in a huff and was disappointed after having a glimpse of this failed nursery.

Sources said that over Rs 3 lakh were spent on these seedlings and other stuff required for the nursery.

When contacted Conservator Srinagar Circle Zubair Ahmed Shah told KNT that only DFO can throw light on this nursery and if something wrong has happened action will follow. “There are so many technicalities involved in the process,” he said.

The DFO Ganderbal could not be contacted as his cell phone was switched off. (KNT)
