Pulwama, Aug 15: The family of a slain policeman hit hard at District Administration Pulwama for not mentioning the name of their deceased member during I-Day celebrations at District Police Lines.

The wife and daughter of the slain policeman Anoop Singh staged a protest and expressed their unhappiness over the callous attitude of district administrative officers.

“They invite people to accumulate crowd. We were invited but felt really very sorry when the announcer didn’t mention the sacrifices of my husband who got killed when he was on Covid-19 duty in Pulwama,” said the wife of the slain policeman to news agency KNT.

Pertinently, a resident of Saidpora Tahab village of Pulwama, police constable Anoop Singh got killed in May 21 this year at Pirchoo area of the district in a militant attack.

“These district officers lauded the role of doctors, covid warriors, Journalists, Municipality employees and presented mementos even to school children but sidelined my husband who attained martyrdom for nation,” the better-half of Anoop Singh said.

Lashing out at district officers, she said her husband was a lion who doesn’t need the support of district officers. “Is this what they do to the people who die for the nation? We were expecting they will honour my husband but little did I know they won’t even mention his name,” she said and hit left, right and centre at district administration Pulwama.

The daughter of the slain policeman told KNT that they feel humiliation and repent why they attend the I-Day celebrations. “Besides my father, my uncle was also a policeman who died in a mine blast near Srinagar Central Jail. At least, those who die in the line of duty should be remembered and honoured, but today, we were disappointed,” she said.

After the protest from the mother-daughter duo, some officials apologized to them and said the mistake was inadvertent.

“We apologize to the family with humility. It was a human error and not done with a purpose,” said a district official.

Despite repeated attempts, District Development Commissioner Pulwama didn’t pick up the phone. (KNT)
