Srinagar, Oct 26: Jammu and Kashmir unit of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday celebrated accession across the UT with party leaders taking a “Tiranga rally” in Srinagar while claiming that only the national flag will remain in Kashmir and every single citizen will unfurl and hold the same.

The party said that the need to take out Tiranga rally was felt after the comments of some politicians that they won’t hold the national flag till the flag of erstwhile state is returned. “Today, we celebrated accession day. On this day, the then Maharaja Hari Singh acceded to India and we are thankful to him that he saved us from the clutches of invaders,” BJP’s J&K spokesman Altaf Thakur told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). He said that they took out a rally from Tagore Hall to SKICC that passed through the gate of PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti at Gupkar. “Today we wanted to give a message to those who claimed that they won’t touch national flag, that every single citizen of Kashmir will unfurl the national flag. Till yesterday, these leaders were made in India and now they are made in China and some are even made in foreigners,” Thakur said in an obvious reference to Dr Farooq Abdullah and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti. Later, scores of BJP workers including women chanted “Bharat Mata ki Jai” slogans at SKICC to mark the accession day.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders and workers celebrated accession day in Jammu as well. They were joined by some social groups too. Youth wing of BJP—Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha held motorbike rally in Jammu to celebrate the Accession Day whereas similar events were also held in other parts of Jammu. In Samba, BJYM took out a celebration rally on the beats of drums and termed Oct 26 as a historic day in the history of Jammu and Kashmir.
