Baramulla, Nov 14: Syed Nadir Hussain (36) from Kamalkote area of Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, who was injured during cross-border shelling on Friday, has lost both his legs, thus got completely handicapped.

The injured was hit by a shell yesterday during the cross-border shelling and was immediately rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Although the injured is stable, but as per the officials, a 36-year-old has got completely handicapped as he has lost both of his legs due to the critical injuries.

Block Medical Officer (BMO) Uri, Dr Ramzan told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that a civilian identified as Syed Nadir Hussain (36), son of Peer Hussain of Kamalkot has lost both of his legs in the shelling.

Nadir Hussain was brought to the hospital in critical condition and was immediately rushed to Srinagar’s hospital for specialized treatment, he said.

He said that many injured were brought to Uri hospital who he identified as Sajad Khan (62), son of Muhammad Aslam Khan of Balkote Uri, Saif-ud-din Qureshi (63), son of Fiqur Ullaha Qureshi of Kamalkote Uri, Hakim Bee (50), wife of Abdul Hamid of Gohallan Uri and Sarfraz Ahmad (18), son of Lateif Ahmad of Gohallan Uri.

He added that one among the injured persons was discharged yesterday while the others were shifted to Baramulla hospital for further treatment.

Meanwhile, the shelling also caused extensive damage to the properties of border dwellers with officials stating that at least 30 residential houses have suffered partial damage in the cross-border shelling that took place along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday.

Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Riyaz Ahmad told KNO that 30 houses and several other constructions have suffered partial damage.

He said a team has been sent to the affected area where they are assessing the loss and will be shared accordingly. He added that many livestock also perished in the shelling.

“Several live mortar shells were also found today in Uri areas including Kamlakote, Barsari and Kundi. A team comprising of police, Army and Revenue officials have been sent to the spot and the live shells will be defused,” he added—(KNO)
