99 percent electricity restored in Srinagar, 90 in north, central Kashmir, 85 in south Kashmir; CE PDD

Says 400 transformers were damaged due to heavy snowfall in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jan 07: In view of the heavy snowfall in the valley around 400 transformers were damaged while people from different areas of Kashmir including parts of Srinagar complained about electricity breakdown.

Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) people from different parts of Kashmir complained about the unscheduled power cuts and low voltage.

“We are living in a metered area and despite issuing the power schedule, we are facing regular breakdowns in power supply. After every one hour electricity goes off for two hours,” people living in the Srinagar outskirts said.

When contacted, chief engineer distribution PDD, Ejaz Ahmad told KNO that the men are at job for restoration of electricity in Kashmir.

He said that around 90 per cent electricity has been restored in north and central Kashmir while 85 in South Kashmir and by tomorrow the department expects more addition in restoration of electricity in the valley.

Talking about the damages caused due to heavy snowfall, Ejaz Ahmad said that around 400 transformers which were damaged including minor damages and those will be repaired at sites.

“So far we have replaced 70 transformers and the rest of the transformers will be repaired/ replaced within the due course of time,” he said.

He said that there are some areas in south and central Kashmir which have accessibility issues because of heavy snow accumulation. “But all our men and machinery are on the restoration process of electricity,” he told KNO.

He further said that 99 percent electricity has been restored in Srinagar—(KNO)
