Srinagar, Sep 30: Former Australian Cricketer and International Coach, Davenell Frederick Whatmore on Saturday said that the hosts of World Cup 2023—India, has the good advantage to clinch the title this year.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the function here in Srinagar outskirts, Whatmore as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) expressed his pleasure over his visit to the valley, saying that ahead of the winters, the present time in Kashmir is wonderful, its people as well as the weather is terrific.

“It is very good to return to Kashmir, this time of the year is wonderful just before the winter comes in. The people as well as the weather are terrific here, I enjoyed very much returning to Doon School as a Secretary of the Wimot Foundation here,” Whatmore said.

“I am here to represent Wimot Foundation as Secretary to see the wonderful facilities which the school has provided to the students,” he said.

Asked about his pick for the four teams in the World Cup 2023, Whatmore said that India—a host team has an advantage at present.

“It is a wonderful excitement for everybody, the host country has the good advantage while England who have been defending champions have a very good chance as well, they have strengthened their squad. Australia has always had a good record in the world cup in all conditions so I am expecting them to be tough competitors and maybe a tossup between Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa and New Zealand for the fourth team, who could emerge as top teams in the world cup,” he said.

Pertinently, 10 teams including the hosts—India have braced up for the World Cup 2023. The warm up games have started from September 29 while the first game of the World Cup—2023 will be played between New Zealand and England in Ahmedabad at Narendra Modi stadium—(KNO)
