World Environment Day: Birla Open Minds International School, Pampore Hosts First Annual Green Minds Inter-School Art and Debate Competition

Pampore, June 5: Birla Open Minds International School, Galander, Pampore organized the First Annual Green Minds Inter School Art and Debate Competition on the eve of World Environment Day, echoing its commitment to environmental sustainability and consciousness.

The events served as a platform for young minds to engage in critical discourse and creative expression, focusing ont he theme ‘Technological Advancement: Environmental Savior or Destroyer?’ for the debate and ‘Our Planet, Our Responsibility’ for the art competition.

Dr. Mehnaz Rehman, Principal of Birla Open Minds International School, expressed her delight at the
success of the event, stating, “The Clean Kashmir & Green Kashmir initiative of Birla Open Minds International School reflects the ethos of the school and BML Welfare Trust. This event serves as a
testament to our continuous efforts towards environmental sustainability and community welfare.” The
Clean Kashmir & Green Kashmir Initiative of Birla Open Minds International School Pampore under the
aegis of BML Welfare Trust aims to create a sustainable ecosystem inside and outside the school. This
initiative aims at nurturing nature for our future.

The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from esteemed schools across the valley. Green
Valley Educational Institute emerged winner in the Debate Competition, while Birla Open Minds International School, Pampore earned the second position. In the Art Competition, Birla Open Minds
International School Pampore clinched First Position and second position was earned by Green Valley
Educational Institute.

The competitions were overseen by distinguished panels, comprising Dr. Huzaifa Pandit, Assistant
Professor at GDC Pampore; Mr. Farooq Shah, a seasoned Senior Journalist; Monica Dogra, a respected
Senior Academician from SCERT, who chaired the debate; Mr. Qalab Hussain, an esteemed Senior
Craftsman from the School of Design; and Mr. Showkat Kathjoo, a talented Lecturer from the Institute of
Music & Fine Arts, responsible for adjudicating the Art Competition.
The Green Minds Inter-School Art and Debate Competition underscored the importance of collective
action and youth involvement in addressing environmental challenges. Through insightful debates and
imaginative artworks, students showcased their understanding of environmental issues and their
commitment to fostering a greener, more sustainable future.
