Srinagar, Jun 20: A video featuring Shia leader and Peoples Conference (PC) General Secretary Imran Raza Ansari reacting angrily to his supporters after his party’s defeat in the Lok Sabha elections has gone viral on social media.
In the 19-second clip, Ansari is seen expressing his frustration, saying, “I was on Arsh (a high position), but you brought me down to the ground (made me eat dust).”
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the video captures Ansari throwing a tea cup in anger before shouting at an elderly supporter.
The Peoples Conference managed to lead in only one assembly constituency, Handwara, out of the 18 seats in the PC Lok Sabha constituency. The party also fell behind in Ansari’s own assembly constituency, Pattan, where the National Conference candidate took the lead.
The Peoples Conference is led by Sajjad Gani Lone, a politician, who transitioned from separatism to mainstream politics. Lone contested the election from the Baramulla seat in North Kashmir but was defeated.
The seat was won by Independent candidate Sheikh Abdul Rashid, also known as Engineer Rashid, who is currently in jail on charges of terror funding. National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah secured the second position, while Lone finished third.
In response to the video’s circulation, Abid Ansari, General Secretary of the All Jammu and Kashmir Shia Association (AJKSA), clarified that the video is old and was recorded in Chanabal, Pattan.
He explained that it depicts a religious mediation between two parties, one of which did not adhere to the mediation. Abid Ansari warned that legal action will be taken against media houses and individuals spreading false information by sharing the video—(KNO)
