Srinagar sizzles, records 36.2°C, third-highest in July history

Qazigund, Kokernag surpass previous temp records

Srinagar, Jul 28: Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, has recorded its third-highest temperature for the month of July, reaching 36.2 degrees Celsius amidst a persistent heat wave.

The Meteorological Department (MeT) said this temperature marks the hottest day of the season so far in Srinagar.

Speaking with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Director MeT Kashmir, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said, “The all-time highest maximum temperature in Srinagar for July is 38.3 degrees Celsius, recorded on July 10, 1946, followed by 37 degrees Celsius on July 9, 1999. Today, Srinagar recorded the third-highest day temperature at 36.2 degrees Celsius.”

Meanwhile, Qazigund and Kokernag set new records for the highest temperatures ever recorded in these areas. Qazigund, often referred to as the gateway to Kashmir, experienced a temperature of 35.6 degrees Celsius, surpassing the previous record of 34.5 degrees Celsius set on July 11, 1988.
