Srinagar, Apr 22: The Army organized a large-scale medical outreach camp in the remote Anderwan Yarmuqam area of Ganderbal district, bringing much-needed healthcare services to an underserved population.
The camp witnessed an overwhelming response, with thousands of residents from nearby far-flung villages availing free medical consultations and treatment. For many, it was the first access to qualified doctors without travelling long distances through difficult terrain.
A team of Army doctors and medical staff conducted health check-ups, diagnosed various ailments and distributed free medicines on the spot. The initiative proved particularly beneficial for elderly patients, women and children who often remain cut off from regular healthcare due to poor connectivity.
The Army also carried out awareness sessions for school children on hygiene, sanitation and basic life-saving techniques, including CPR, aiming to build long-term health awareness in the region.
Locals appreciated the effort, saying the camp provided both medical relief and a sense of support. Alam Din Awan, an elderly resident, said he had never witnessed such a medical camp in the area in his lifetime and noted that thousands of people benefitted from the initiative.
Army officials said such outreach programmes will continue in remote and underserved areas to ensure essential medical services reach isolated communities.
