Jammu, Aug 20: Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Sunil Sharma on Thursday welcomed US Ambassador Sergio Gor’s statement on Jammu and Kashmir, calling it a “major diplomatic success” for India and a “setback” to Pakistan’s persistent efforts to internationalise the Kashmir issue.
“There is no doubt, there is no question that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India. Today, if the US Ambassador has said that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India, then it is a good thing and, somewhere, it is a major success of India’s diplomacy,” Sharma told reporters here as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS).
The BJP leader said Pakistan had been making “a lot of efforts to create confusion abroad” regarding Jammu and Kashmir, but the US envoy’s assertion had put an end to such narratives. “The world is now clearly acknowledging India’s unwavering position on the matter,” he added.
Gor, in his remarks on Wednesday, had categorically described Jammu and Kashmir as an integral part of India, reinforcing New Delhi’s consistent stand that the Union Territory is a sovereign part of the country and any cross-border interference is unacceptable. (KNS)
