Resignation Will Come, But Before That Must Come Accountability: Ruhullah Writes To Farooq Abdullah

Srinagar, Aug 28: National Conference MP from Srinagar, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Friday said he has written a letter to party president Dr. Farooq Abdullah in response to his public demand for resignation.

“Rest assured, the resignation will come. It would have come even without you asking but before that must come accountability. I have written a letter to my party President, Janab Dr. Farooq Abdullah in response to his public demand for my resignation. Awaiting his response to the questions I have asked in this letter,” Ruhullah said in a post on X as per GNS.

In his letter dated August 28, Ruhullah has questioned the party’s shift from restoration of Article 370 to demand for statehood, saying that by accepting statehood as the outer limit of political horizon, the party was legitimising the constitutional assault of August 2019.

He referred to Farooq Abdullah’s August 25 press statement – “How long will you be a slave? You have to stand on your feet sometimes. When will you stand?” – and said those words resonated deeply, but asked why the party president objects when he asks the same questions.

Ruhullah said the party was not even “begging” for Article 370 now but for statehood, which the Supreme Court has recognised and BJP promised in its 2024 manifesto, making JKNC’s position no different from BJP’s. He said the demotion to statehood was opposite to the promise of restoration of Articles 370 and 35A on which the party came to power.

Responding to Farooq Abdullah’s remark asking who he was before JKNC, Ruhullah said he was inheritor of a long tradition of martyrdom and proud son of a martyr, and it was Farooq Abdullah himself who had personally invited him into the party.(GNS)
