Srinagar, Sep 16: PDP MLA Aga Syed Muntazir on Wednesday raised concerns over what he termed as the disproportionate representation of the Kashmir Valley in recent gazetted appointments, claiming that the region has been sidelined despite its majority population share in Jammu and Kashmir.
Citing data regarding 55 JKAS and J&K Accounts (Gazetted) appointments, the MLA from Budgam said only 10 of these positions have been filled by candidates from the Kashmir Valley.
He pointed out that this accounts for merely 18 per cent of the total appointments, whereas the Valley comprises around 60 per cent of the Union Territory’s population.
“This demands scrutiny of representation, fairness and the current recruitment framework,” Muntazir said in a post on X.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader announced that he would raise the issue in the Legislative Assembly, asserting that the youth of Kashmir deserve equal opportunity rather than token representation.
“I will raise it in the Assembly. Kashmir’s youth deserve equal opportunity, not token representation,” he added. (KNS)
